Common Framing Errors 2 Classroom Hours
This session is designed to provide contractors, building inspectors, and designers with a detailed look at common errors made during the construction of wood framed structures. We will take a detailed look at problems with floor, wall and roof framing. Participants will learn how to correct applications and make them code compliant. The class will cover the requirements for notching and boring of joists and studs, the importance of tension ties and draftstopping, floor and wall framing techniques, and common mistakes made with rafter framing as well as roof truss applications. This will all be done by viewing examples of common code violations. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Distinguish between correct framing practices and framing errors related to wood frame construction.
- Determine the best solutions to correct framing errors.
- Identify framing errors and apply the best method to fix them.
- Determine when an engineered solution is required.
