Code Relevance: NEC, IBC, IPC, OSHA           

The IBC and Federal OSHA require specific measures to protect personnel when performing trenching and excavation work. Underground hazards occur not only to those in the trenches, but also to surface personnel, occupants of adjacent buildings as well as new and existing structures. These hazards are related not just to cave-ins, but involve electrical safety and hazardous vapors as well. Code requirements exist to protect the workers and public from these dangers. The purpose of this class is to provide a general overview as to the requirements set forth in the IBC and OSHA standards relating to  the safe execution of trenching and excavation operations.
